Question

Old scissors.png
Ms Schwall: Attached is a .png containing two photos of a pair of my late grandmother's scissors that may have been acquired by her in the late 19th century.  They are exactly 6 inches long and of a silvery sheen.  What info do you have regarding their date and place of manufacture?

Answer
Hello Keith,
Thank you for your query.  It appears that you have dressmaker or what were also known as 'household shears'.
I am not familiar with this maker's mark but I have sent a few inquiries to fellow collectors in the hope that this mystery can be solved.
I will get back to you shortly.
Regards,
Irene

Hello Keith,
Mystery solved! Thank you for your patience.
The maker's mark --crossed palms and triangle below--
The company was founded  by Emil Schlemper GmbH Solingen-Merscheid in 1909. It was still active in 1959 but no indication that it remains in operation today.
This information was given to me by a German collector friend.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
