Pedestal
QUESTION: I have a Mahogany Dinning Room Table that was my parents.  I think it is a 1940’s vintage set.  It is rectangular in shape (74” X 42”) and it has two, three claw foot pedestals as the supports.  The table top is in excellent condition however one of the three claw foot pedestals has been broken and is probably un-repairable.  I do not want to dump the entire table.  How would I locate another three claw foot pedestal?
I have enclosed a picture of the good pedestal.  I can send you a picture of the broken one if you think that would help.
Thanks,
P. Tedesco

ANSWER: Hi Phillip
Nice to hear from you.
Wish you could send a picture of the broken pedestal.
I have never seen a piece of furniture that could not be fixed.
You are not going to find a replacement. Its not something stores carry.
Please get back
Regards
Eileen

QUESTION: Five of Six

Answer
Hi again Philip
If you have the missing piece, this is an easy repair.
If you don't a piece can be made.
This can be fixed.
Do you have a local wood shop near you.
If you don't have the tools or skills to do this I would not attempt it.
This is a nice table and I would have it repaired.

Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
