Collectibles-General (Antiques)/book case

Question
In doing some house cleaning I found the following information on the back of a book case that I inherited from my parents.  What can you tell me about it and the company that made it.

Plate on back indicates "Paine Furniture Co. Boston, Mass"
There is a paper tag "nailed" with the #83956 and then stenciled on the back is 72.74S

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Paine Furniture was in business from @1835-1935. In later years they made only bedding. Their furniture is considered some of the best made in that time period. I would assume the #83956 is a item number and the stenciled number probably has to do with production, such as date or persons who built it.
Thanks for your question,
