Question
QUESTION: I have an ugly thimble probably from at least the 1950s. It looks like zinc and has "made in USA 10" on the band. Would it be from WW11, when they made zinc pennies, do you think? Would it be a collectible? Thanks for your help.

ANSWER: Hello Donna,
Thank you for your query.
Without being able to see a photograph of your thimble it is practically impossible for me to give you an answer.  Please include a photo so that I can see the object.
Many thimbles are collectible but not necessarily 'rare'.
Regards,
Irene

QUESTION: Can you identify the vintage of this thimble?

Answer
Hello Donna,
Thanks for including the photo.
Without handling the thimble, my guess would be that it is from around the 1920's.  The thimble is cast (note the seam) and it is a utilitarian thimble.
Could possibly have been part of a low-end sewing kit but more likely a "give away" to housewives.
Almost all WWII kits had a brass thimble not zinc.
Value = almost none.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
