Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Bally 831 F Jackpot reset?

Question
I have a Bally 831 F. A friend recently hit the triple BAR
symbols on the 3rd payline for the jackpot. How do I reset the
machine? As long as the power is on, the bell rings and lights
flash and the machine won't accept coins nor will the handle
pull down. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Alan,

The model 831 made in 1968, this is a electro/mechanical game. There is a key on it's side, handel side of the cabinet that will reset it. If you do not have this key, then there are several other way to do this. One quick way is to pull the reel mechanism out of it and trip the reels so they are not on a jackpot combination anymore and put it back in. Or, it it could be that the payout counter is stuck on a jackpot payout amount and you can try resetting the payout counter by hand, it's located on the back of the coin hopper. Did this machine make the complete coin payout? or is the jackpot a hand pay, meaning that a slot attendant would have to come and pay you by hand, it should say on the award glass. How many coins is listed for this jackpot that was hit? It could be that the payout counter is not working quite right and on some large payouts like this, if it is a payout made by the machine, this large payout makes the payout counter step up unit on the back of the hopper, step way up where it does not go very often, (100 steps for a one hundred coin payout) and if the hopper is not working right it might not be able to step up this high, (re: like maybe the spiro came spring is to wound to tight) which would not allow this cam to step this high. It can be caused by a few things, but if this is an attendant pay jackpot, then it just needs to be reset. Check your manual for resetting the payout counter and adjusting it, if this should of been a full payout or (a full machine payout) and not an "attendant pay".

Hope this gets it fixed for you.

Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
