Question
QUESTION: I acquired a Bally E-1000 series slot machine that I cannot get to work - when I turn it on it has a loud (like a buzz)sound shows 71000 code. Everything lights up - the buzz sound does not occur when I pull out the reel mechanism and turn it on. I have switched reel reader boards around between the reels and no change. Could it be a bad coil or MPU battery? I have never seen this machine in working condition. Any ideas would be appreciated.
ANSWER: Hi Joe,
Your information is very helpful, but i have to ask you a couple of dumb questions here. Door open buzz should go away if you close and lock the door, does it? Also do you know how to reset the machine? The reset button is one of the two located on your hopper.

QUESTION: Thanks for the prompt response - the sound does not go away when the door is closed and locked. Also, the sound goes away for a second after pushing the reset button, but comes right back.
ANSWER: Hi Joe,
This can be really hard to do anything much via e-mail but we can try. Just what is buzzing, is it an open door alarm or is it some coil that should not be energized? If you push the reset on the hopper board to reset the game, does the game reset for play? (does the code 71000 go away, and does the insert coins light come on, meaning the machine is really reset, and ready to play?). Or does the machine remain in a tilt mode displaying an error code? If the machine does not reset at all on pushing the reset button, and the code 71000 remains (no change), it could be that something has gone south (wrong) with the MPU or the hopper board which could cause a unwanted coil to be energized when it should not be. Will the machine reset so you can pull the handle, spin the reels, then maybe get the error code 71, or does it not even reset?
Thanks

QUESTION: The game does not actually reset - the 71000 code never goes away and I cannot pull the handle down to spin the reels, it is locked. I do not know what the door open buzzer sounds like but the sound it is making is very loud.
Thanks for your help.
AnswerHi Joe,
I am sorry Joe, but I think this machine needs to see someone's shop to figure this problem out. If you can't reset it, I am thinking that the MPU board may be bad, in these questions of yours it sounds to me that you can not change the state of this machine, even by pushing the reset button, Is that correct? If you want to try to fix it yourself at this point, I would, if it were me, Try changing the MPU board with a known good MPU, but if you get a new MPU board you would have to put your programs chips in it. Can you find someone who has a working machine and try changing the MPU board to see? Sometimes a MPU board goes bad, and no matter what you do you don't change anything, and this sounds to me this is what is going on here, the buzzing never changes, and the code does not change, and the machine does not reset to where you can try to play it again. Can you add anything to what I am seeing here? Do you have manuals now so you can learn how about this Bally Series "E" Machine.
Thank You
Rodger
