Question

Thimble Collection
Hi,
I have a pile of vintage thimbles, and I am wondering if you can take a look at my picture and tell me if any of them stand out to you as being more valuable than the rest. I love them and think they are all very special, but I am thinking about maybe selling one or two, and I would like to know if any are worth more than $25. They are from Germany, England, abolone, Abolone, bone china Precious Moments, wooden, pewter. A Santa Claus, stein, flowers, cat, farm scene and souvenior.

Answer
Hello Missy,
Thank you for your query and for including a photograph of your thimbles.
Unfortunately none of the thimbles that you have shown me are of particular value.  The porcelain ones were mass produced so they don't hold there value very well. The brass, metal and abalone would all sell for around $2 - $15.  Probably the most sought after ones would be the Precious Moments and the thimble stein but again under $25.
If you are able to go to eBay, type in the words bone china.  This will give you a good indication of what their worth might be.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
