Question
QUESTION: Thanks for your help - just one follow up point of clarification - when I press the reset button it does reset to zero on the display, the buzzing stops but a second later it reverts back to the 71000 error code with the buzz. I do have manuals - was just wondering if it was as simple as needing a new MPU battery - or having a bad coil.

ANSWER: Hi Joe,

Sorry I was misunderstanding you on this. So it does reset ok, and that tells us that you MPU and hopper board is working. The code "71" is a problem with the first reel, the one on you left as your looking at it. Code 71 is "Reel Did Not Index" code, did the reel lock or can you spin it by hand? This code 71 tells us the the position reader on the first reel is unable to obtain a consistent reading. So if the reel did not index #locked# and it is free spinning the problem is most likely a mechanical problem. something in the levers under the reel mechanism or maybe a broken wire to the coil. Also you might try cleaning the reel axal and reel kicking levers so the reels spin better, longer, and faster. I am not sure by your question just what is buzzing, is this a reel index coil or a machine alarm coil buzzing? I don't think you need a coil if it's buzzing as this tells us it working anyway. Most coils almost burn black when there bad if it's an intermittent coil and it's stuck on. As for a battery, not you don't need one or you would have a bad battery code. If after cleaning up everything #and don't forget to clean those pins the mechanism uses to plug into the cabinet, the reel mechanism has these bleu plugs and so does the hopper#, If it still doesn't work after doing this work you might try changing or swapping the reel reader board with a different reel and see if the code will change to a 72 or 73 which would tell you something is wrong with that first reel reader board.

Hope this helps Joe......

Sincerely

QUESTION: Thanks for the advise - I stopped the buzzing sound which seemed to be associated with the reset lock on the side of the machine. After undoing the lock, the buzzing stopped, the coin accepted and the lever was able to work - the 71000 code still showed and the reels did not stop after pulling the handles - switched the reader boards between 1 1nd 3  which did not help - but making progress. Thanks

Answer
When you changed the reel reader boards did the error code change to a 72 code? if so, the first reel maybe should of indexed before it tilted. If it is still showing a 71 code each time if might not be the reel reader board, but something mechanical with the spin speed or not being able to index the fist reel. Glad to hear that your moveing forward on it.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
