Question
I WAS GIVEN A BOX OF JUNK FROM A FIRE A FAMILY MEMBER HAD.
TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY THE SMALL BOX IT IS IN SAYS,
GULDSMED (OLIN OR ODIN) DOMAAS TRONDHJEM. IT SEEMS LIKE IT WAS GIVEN AS A GIFT IN 1931 FROM A TRIP TO NORWAY. IT IS METAL ON THE INSIDE. THE TOP OF IT IS SOME KIND OF WHITE IRRIDESCENT TYPE GLASS OR STONE. IT HAS A PINK AND BLUE SKY, MORE OF THE PINK. THE PICTURE OF A MOOSE OR A ANIMAL LOOKING LIKE THAT PULLING A SLED WITH A PERSON ON IT. IT IS SURROUNDED BY SNOW AND MOUNTAINS AROUND THE THIMBLE. IT SMOOTH ALL THE WAY AROUND IT BUT THE PINK SKY GIVES THE EFFECT OF LINES COMING DOWN THROUHT THE SKY. IT IS IN THE ORIGINAL BOX WITH THE BRIEF NOTE OF HOW IT CAME TO A RELITIVE. ITIS IN PERFECT CONDITION. MY SON WANTS ME TO THROW IT AWAY I DO NOT KNOW IF I SHOULD.
ANYTHING YOU COULD TELL ME ABOUT IT WOULD BE AWESOME I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIMBLES.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND EXPERTISE IN THIS AREA. GREATLY APPRECIATED,   SHERYE

Answer
Hi Sherye.  Even without a picture, I can say DON'T THROW IT AWAY!  From your description it sounds like you do have a Norwegian enamel thimble.  You may find makers marks up inside the top of the thimble.  I would need to see a picture of your thimble to help you further, but if it is what I think it is and it is in perfect condition, your thimble could be worth over $100.  You can search for enamel thimbles on ebay to see if you can find something like yours that sold recently to give you a better idea of value.  If you DO listen to your son, please throw the thimble in my direction
