Question

Mahogany Rocker
I have a pair of mahogany rocking chairs with what used to be caning down he backs and under each arm rest.  4  carvings of some type of flower on each back support and front armrest support. My mom bought them at an auction in the early 50s. They were said to have come to the US from Germany.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Answer
Your rockers may have come from Germany but I belive they were made in the US. During the late 40s early 50s they made a bunch of this style of rocker with cane panels. The cane is sheet cane or prewoven. I cane tell by the pictures they are not mahogany but rather may have a mahogany finish. Much of this type of furniture was made from several types of wood and stained with a mahogany or walnut finish. I can tell this because the finish is worn off the arm in the picture to show a light wood. These chairs have some potential but need refinishing and new caning. They don't hold a value that would keep from refinishing. I wouldn't think twice about refinishing them, if I had the pair, back to what they should look like.
