Question
I have seen a miniature Singer Sewing Machine selling for $50 in a thrift shop. The machine is less than 5" high and 6" in length.
Do you think I should buy it? Is it worth $50? It does not look a toy. It appears to a promotional item. ( I am guessing.) The condition looks good. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Marian,
Thank you for your query.
It is impossible for me to determine if you should purchase the machine.  This is not a decision that I can make for you, sorry.
As far as 'value' your best bet would be to got to www.ebay.com to find out what these toy machines are actually selling for.  This auction site is a good indicator because there are numerous machines, not only Singer that are for sale at any one time. Singer Sewing Machine Co. made thousands of toy machines and for the most part only the very early models are of significant value.
Condition is always a factor as well as - does the machine has all of the original parts, the instruction manual, the original box it was sold in, does it operate smoothly, is the needle present -- these all add value to the collectible.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
