Question

full front view
Please forgive if this is a duplicate, I did not get a confirmation that the first question went through.

My sister recently moved an antique curved glass china cabinet. Unfortunately the left (from front view) of the curved glass panels was broken.  The movers took it to a "shop" to be fixed and it came back with clear curved glass to fit the panel (almost) but it does not match the original thin slightly tinted glass. The mover said the original antique glass can not be replaced (doesn't exist anymore)  and this was the best that could be done.  Our question: Can old glass be found to replace the broken one, and if so where?  We live in the Kansas City, MO area.
Thanks a million
Carol

Answer
Hi Carol
Nice to hear from you.
This is not a duplicate question. Sometimes the site acts up LOL.
What a shame the original old glass was broken in this lovely cabinet.
Unfortunately you will not ever find an antique piece of this glass for replacement.
Cabinets like this are never discarded.
If this is a family heirloom that must be restored at any cost, you could by an entire cabinet at an antique store, switch glass, then resell the purchased one.
Thats your only hope.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
