Question
Many years ago the above mentioned thimble was found in the dirt at my ex-husband's grandparent's homestead in Waitsburg, Wa.  SALEM 1692 is engraved on it, and the initial "K".
There is also a picture that I cannot make out.
The thimble is not in mint condition but is in very good condition.

Answer
Hello Jane.  I don't see a question here, so I'm going to guess that you are looking for information on your thimble.  Since you did not include a picture, I can only guess that you are describing the "Salem Witch" thimble that was made by Ketcham and McDougall in the late 1800s.  The design on the band was patented 20 Sep 1891.  However, that does not mean your thimble is that old.  The thimble was issued for a number of years.  There has also been reproductions issued.  If your thimble is sterling, clean it gently with a mild detergent and a soft bristle brush.  You may find three "witches pins" above the 1692 date (the date of the witch trials, not the date of the thimble).  You may also see a witch on her broom, a cat and a crescent moon.  In order to give you a value, I must see the thimble, as many things affect the value. Hope I've helped.  Barbara
