Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Willimantic thread

Question
Hi, I just realized that I have a wooden spool of Willimantic three cord thread, left twist, 500 yds. in a coral/orange color. I researched this brand, but only found info on the six cord thread. Could you shed some light on this for me. I would love to know more about this spool.

Answer
Hello Jenny.  Willimantic has a a long and interesting history.  Google "Willimantic" to find numberous sites.  One is the Willimantic Thread Museum.  If they do not describe the difference between three cord and six cord thread, you could contact them with your question.  Another suggestion might be to visit the Superior Thread web site.  Although not connected to Willimantic, they have a vast knowledge on the topic of thread and could probably address your question.  Sorry I'm not more help, but thread is not in my area of expertise.  Barbara
