Question
QUESTION: recently acquired bally series e 2000 slot machine.
works pretty well,
its a single line 3 reel machine
the 2nd and 3rd reels don't stop all of the time. when I manually push the coil button they will stop. I was thinking maybe the coil assembly needed to be replaced? if so where would you recommend I get parts? I should add, at times the machine will play normally for 30 or 40 pulls. at other times it frequently keeps the 2nd and 3rd wheel spinning. I did test the wheel reader with testing button and it appeared to be reading fine.

ANSWER: Hi Phil,

I just now found a few questions waiting for me here, allexperts did not inform me you were waiting, sorry for that. I like to respond as soon as I receive a question if possible. I have some bally and other parts if needed, and lots of manuals can be found at:

As for you reel index coils being bad, I really don't think so, In all my time I have never had to replace even one of these coils. You did not tell me what err code this machine gave you in the "coins paid" window. If it did tilt, it should give you a code there. It's most likely going to be a reel err, but there are a few different codes for the different errs. If reel one did index and it tilted before reel two and three got a chance to index, I would think the problem would be with reel two, but a reel one problem is possible also. The code would help us a lot here. Can you look it over again and see what code it is giving and let me know? If the machine does work for many pulls and only tilts once in awhile, it could be a lot of things. The mechanism could need cleaning, reel bundle would also need to be dissembled and a drop or two of oil in the "reel tins" needle bearings or Axel bearings. It could also be a weak or none working optic or inferred reel reader or receiver, you could even try cleaning these and make sure that the reel disks holes are clear and not covered over with grease, (these are the holes the reel reader boards look through to each other. Check and look for a err code and let me know OK?

Thank You

Sincerely

QUESTION: the error code is 42. reel one always stops, then reel 2 and 3 keep spinning. I adjusted the distance on the 2nd reel reader and it seems to be working better. Although, i haven't tried it long enough to know for sure. It might have been too close to the left side reader.
What type of lubricant do you recommend for the areas you mention above.

Answer
Phil,

Code 42 is a problem with the 2nd reel, this could be a burned out reel reader board, try switching these reel reader boards around to see if moving it to reel three, gives you a 43 err code. If it does the problem is most likely a burned out reader board. I use the zoom spout oiler that you can get at auto stores, hardware stores, or sears parts department, it called a find turbo oil, and I use a light grease like maybe Lube-A-Plate, or something very light for the light levers.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
