Question

International Mutoscop
Mr. Bieza,
We have two question. First, we are trying to determine the value of our mutoscope, made by the International Mutoscope Reel Company. The model number is #894. The machine has a metal nameplate that possibly holds the name of its first owner--"Crane Automation LTD"(London). The cast iron, clamshell type with a horizontal coin slot, it is equipped with an old reel, "Out All Night" featuring Reginald Denny and presented by Carl Laemmle.

Once we know its value, we are wondering what course of action to take in selling it. We live in Houston.

Answer
Hi Gail, It's likely that your machine was one of the many Mutoscopes sent to England in the late 1920's.  Lots of machines were sent back here in the 1950's of which yours is one.  Your machine would be valued in the range of $800-1300, depending on the condition of the movie reel.  Shipping is expensive, so buyers are less likely to buy if there's shipping involved.  I would try craigslist.  You may find someone local to buy it.  Good Luck.  Larry  www.coinoplibrary.com
