Question
HI, I'M ENCLOSING SOME PICS OF WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE SOMETHING PERTAINING TO THE SEWING INDUSTRY ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED BY THE GREIST COMPANY.  ANY HELP IN IDENTIFYING THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.  THANKS

Answer
Hello Frank,
Thank you for your query.
I believe what you have is a Greist Co. buttonhole attachment that can be used with a household or domestic full-sized sewing machine.
Both the Greist and Singer company made these and the attachment makes different sized buttonholes.
The buttonhole cams drop into the attachment. The Greist cams number around 15 and they are made of pot metal. The buttonhole attachment has its own feed dogs and the plate covers the feed dogs in the machine.
These buttonhole attachments usually run around $25 and they can still be found on the web and used by the seamstress. They were sold by both companies roughly between the 1940’s to the 1970’s.

Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
