I have a small brass sewing pencil in a sheath.  It says cross london followed by RD459680.  On the other side of the sheath are the letters SM and a K with an arrow pointing at the SM.  Please tell me what this might be worth? thankyou

Answer
Hello Tyler,
Thank you for your query.
Please give me a day or two to research the registration mark and maker's mark if possible.
I will get back to you shortly.
Regards,
Irene

Hello Tyler,
Are you able to take a photograph of the SM & K mark for me please?  If so either attach it to a new query but state the old subject or, send to me at: xtahoeviews@yahoo.com.
Thanks.
Irene

A bit more information on your pencil.  The pencil case is English and the Registration Nr. dates the pencil to 1905. I have checked all of my sources for the name of the maker as you have written SM & K with an arrow pointing to the SM and cannot find anything. sorry.
This pencil would have been in an English fitted needlework box along with other needlework tools like a thimble, needle case, thread winders, scissors etc.  The value of this item to a needlework tool collector depends on a few factors: (a) does the collector have a missing pencil from her/his fitted box? (b) if so, would your pencil fit in the exact slot - the measurements are critical. (c) does the pattern on the pencil case match the other tools within the needlework box. Some have a jeweled end, or enamel - more valuable (d) condition - does the pencil have lead? Does it extend and retract the lead with ease (e) overall condition - this is critical to a collector.

Without a photograph, (you have not provided one) it is impossible for me to determine the pattern, condition or value of your item.
