Answer
Ken,

Your machine does not pay out like a slot machine.  It is a called a trade stimulator.  If the customer hit a winner, a payout or award would have been paid by the operator.  Pace manufactured the machine in 1935.  You are correct that the machine came in slightly different variations.  Your example originally had a jackpot under the award card. Unfortuntely, it has been removed and is no longer with the machine.  The jackpot would have been filled by the operator.  If a customer was lucky enough to hit the jackpot the operator would have unlocked the jackpot and paid the winner.  The majority of the aluminum trade stimulators did not have the added jackpot.  It is to bad it is missing and very unlikely one could be found.  Personally, I don't know anyone who has one available.  One gumball should be dispensed every time the machine is played.  If it doesn't work correctly, it is likely some or all of the gumball mechanism is missing.  It is common to find these machines without the gumball parts.  Again, it is difficult to find any parts for these machines.  The reel strips and award card has been reproduced for this machines.  I can provide you with the source for the reproduction paper if you email me at buck@nvc.net
