Question

Columbus
Hi, I would like to know the age and the value of this Columbus penny vending machine.  The only thing I can find  wrong with it is that there is a little chip on the top of the lid. It seems to work all right. I have looked these up on line and cannot find one with this shape of a jar all the others are round. I have enclosed a picture.  Thank you.

Answer
Rick,

You have a Columbus Model M which was manufactured in the 1930's.  They came with the round or octagon glass globe.  The majority have the round globe but the octagon is not rare and doesn't usually sell for a premium.  Model M's have been selling for $175-250 depending upon condition.  There are also different variations--cast iron, aluminum, painted, porcelain, gumball, or peanut versions.
