Question

Hershey Candy Bar Trad
I have an old trade stimulator. It is about 14" long, 7.5" wide and 4" deep. It has a glass top and a metal case. It takes nickels, but it has 1 cent and 5 cent on the glass top. There is a bottom reel and a top reel. It looks as though if you spin and match the two candy bars you get that candy bar, otherwise you get a gum ball.

The one thing that is odd is paying a nickel for a 1 cent piece of gum doesn't sound like a good deal?

The Hershey Candy Bars available for winning are Hershey, Clark, Mars, O'Henry, Necco, Planters, 5th Avenue and Brock Bars.

It works very well and it has a key with it.

Could you please tell me more about this item and if you can give me a range of value.

Thank you for any help you can give me on this trade stimulator.

Answer
Hi Gary,
I have seen pictures of this machine before but have been unable to find any info on it.
From the look of it, I would guess it is from 1950's to early 60's.
I agree that paying a nickel for a chance to win a 5-10 cent candy bar is not good odds. Have you tried using a penny to see if it will work ?
I would probably value in 100-200. range.
I like the looks of the machine and would be interested in buying it if you decide to sell it.
 Thanks, tom

Expertise

I am able to answer questions on old coin operated machines. These include vending machines such as gumball or peanut or other machines such as trade stimulators that did not dispense a product but were positioned on a store's counter to bring in customers or stimulate trade. I specialize in machines by Pulver, Zeno, and Mansfield and also any old cast iron or wood machines.

Experience

I have been collecting these type of machines for about 10 years and have traveled the country to antique shows and auctions.
