Question
I have a Mills Black Cherry (Nickel) that I inherited from my granfather. I have it fully functional, but I can't figure out why the front Jackpot window doesn't fill with nickels when the payout tube is full? The all gather in the deposit before the coin box. Any help would be useful. Thanks in advance, Chris

Answer

Mills Black Cherry
Hi Chris,

I am sure we should be able to figure this out. Does you jackpot look complete? When the coin tube is full, there is a small lever at almost the top of it, behind the tube, each time you play it this lever comes through the top casting of the coin tube and pushes excess coins that are above the tube into a slide to the jackpot, the coins then splash into the top reserve jackpot and then to the regular jackpot on/or into the coin box. So, just were are these coins being held up? Do they gather at the top of the jackpot and don't go to the coin box? If so, there is a spring loaded door at the top of the jackpot and this must fall down when some coins land on it. If this door doesn't fall and is stuck up, the coins will gather there. Does this sound like the problem you are having? Do you have a manual for this machine? If not you can get one here:

And look for this:

Mills Slot Machine mechanical repair and fully illustrated Manual, The Big One! This is a large manual with lots of mechanism photo's and information. You will be very happy with this manual, nothing better out there.

If You can send photos of your machine showing the top of the coin tube from the back and you jackpot, and where the coins are gathering pleas do, send them to Jackpot7@q.com and we can figure out what is wrong with your machine. Attached to this answer is some information on your machine.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
