Question
QUESTION: Rodger
I have a couple of questions,I have purchased a Bally slot machine the model # is E2269-10 with 55 below it. the other tag has 2278-9 on it can you tell me  series this is so I can get the correct manual is it a E series or a EM. Now the problem I am haveing is that when ever I turn the power switch on it goes to tilt I have a 6 on the meter when I first turn it on and then it goes to 50

ANSWER: Hi Patrick,

You machine is a Bally E-2000 series game, the "E' in the model number stands for Electronic meaning it has circuit boards. The "M" in the model number in older games stans for Mechenical like M742A for a Bally and this would be a Electro/Mechanical type game with no circut boards. So, the manuals you need would be for a Bally E Series slot machine. If you looking for manuals there are several covering all types and makes of machine and your Bally E series also at:

On power up your getting a code 6 and then on to a code 50 right? Code 6 I am not sure just what that is but it could be a low MPU battery causeing this or something else the machine see's as it's doing it's start up check. The code 50 is a door open code, any time you open the door this code 50 will show until next play. Try turning on the power with the door closed (even if you have to just plug it in) and then see what code you get. If you have a tilt on a Bally machine you need to see what the error code is first, before you open the door, because once you open the door the error code is replaced with the door open code of 50. So, with your door closed and locked before power you may get to see what the error code is first before that code 50 covers it up,(maybe). Have you tryed resetting it useing the reset button on the hopper board?

QUESTION: Thanks for the help,I have checked the battery and it reads 4 VDC I have made sure that th door switchs are made and when I power up the machine or reset the machine I still get a 6 on the far right side of the display for just a second and then the display reads 50.000 also the 2nd and 3rd coin light come on and stay on as soon as I reset or power up, the machine then goed in to the tilt mode after about 20 seconds and the 2nd and 3rd coin lights start flashing.I tried to drop a coin in before it goes into tilt but it does not change the dislayed message.Ant more ideas?

ANSWER: I am wondering Patrick, in this 20 seconds before the tilt can you hear the hopper trying to run or turning? If it takes that long to tilt after reset it could mean the hopper is trying to finish a payout. After the 20 seconds with the door shut and locked and then it tilts, doesn't it give you some kind of error? If you have 20 seconds before a tilt, can't you drop a coin in it and pull the handle once? It might be one of those that's just to hard to fix over e-mail.
Thanks
Rodger

QUESTION: Ok I have a manual now and have conducted the tests and I am finding that when I test the hopper test # 4 I get a code 32 that states Hopper empty I have put coins in the hopper and adjusted the counter balance switch so that it is made and I still get this code on the test and when I run the machine and it should pay out. I check and have now voltage on the hopper counter balace switch or the rocker pin switch, I do have 120 volts to the fuse on the board and the fuse is good , I have not seen the turn at this point. do you think it is the hopper board or am I missing an input someware?

Answer
Hi patrict,

It sounds like maybe it's not counting coins to me, in the test mode I believe, the hopper should count 10 coins and stop. There is a roller on top of the hopper that the coins, on the way out of the hopper, go under this roller and the coin lifts this roller up as it goes under it, and this action steps the micro switch that counts the coins, the flat bar to this micro switch can be easily bent and cause the switch to just stay on, and not make and break like it should one time for each coin. My guess is your problem is there with this switch action. The hopper weight micro switch at the bottom of the hopper scoop would not have anything to do with this coin counting problem.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
