Collectibles-General (Antiques)/how to thread a Vulcan Junior sewing machine

Question
Hello, I bought a 1950s Vulcan Junior chils sewing machine years ago before I had children and have dusted it off now my daughter who is 8 for her to use. The trouble is that we do not have any instructions but the machine looks complete. I cannot see anywhere obvious for a bobbin, but the top thread seems to work nicely when the handle turns. As it is for children I am guessing the threading should be fairly straightforward and maybe the key is in the threading. I don't know if i am maybe missing a bobbin part or not ? I would be delighted if you could help with instructions at all. Many thanks for your time. Catherine

Answer
Hello Catherine,
Thank you for your query.
I do not have the threading instructions for the Vulcan Junior, sorry.
However -- many of these toy or small machines only sew a chain stitch and there is no bobbin. The needle and thread go down into the shuttle and when caught, produce a chain stitch.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
