Question
bally
bally
hey rodger well i got my 742a working great (with your help) and i ran into someone wanting to sell another slot machine a bally eseries model e-1347. he said it worked up until storage about six months ago, it doesnt but i got it anyway. it powers up all the lights come on, handle wont release, it is missing front glass, but my coin go straight into the cash box with no credit displayed and the hopper is empty. i have reset it and it comes back on with the code 111111 in the win meter any idea where i should start to look? one obvious place is the two wires that are unconnected but i have no clue where they go. also there are two prongs on the right hand side board that are empty but the wires arent that long i believe. also i found a small blue jumper box i think. i am assuming it probably goes there. so any help you could give me to get started would be greatly appreciated (again). i will email more photos to you and look for a manual on your site. i have a non working jukebox too a nsm es 160 if you want to help with that one too.

Answer
Hi Brian,

Great work!

WOW, you just jumped into the fire! From a E?M slot to a Electronic slot, BIG, I say BIG difference! I would guess that you have a Bally E-1000 series machine here, and the Military version to boot! I can't say for sure that it is the E-1000 series without seeing a photo of the MPU board on the left side of the inside of the cabinet. The Bally E-1000 and E-2000 series use the same manuals but they use different MPU boards, reel readers, reel reader interface board, and hopper board, and for the most part are not interchangeable with E-2000 machines, also different reel reader voltage, the E-1 has 50 volts to the readers, and the e-2 uses 5 volts to the reel readers. So, here we go on another adventure………. First I would get manuals and get to know this machine before you do much on it. Learn that the machines reset button is down of the edge of the coin hopper board along with a test button that you want to shy away from until you know what you're doing, The little red buttons are marked on the hopper circuit board as to which button is what. I have never had one of the Bally "E" Type Military Models before, and they are just a little different than the regular "E" (E is for Electronic) machines.
Your error code is not right, so this could be that the MPU boards battery is low, plug it in for an hour before you mess with the machine, as this is a nicad battery and it will take a trickle charge to charge it up, the machine when powered on, will provide the charge. I will try to help you some here, but allexperts site is not meant for an extensive repair and detail site on these kind of problems, but I am game, and will try to help you learn about your machine so you can get it running. Sometimes this is a problem that can be fixed by just reseating the piggy back Ram board on the MPU board. The piggy back board on a E-1000 model also hosts the MPU NiCad battery along with the RAM proms. Manuals that you're going to want to be looking at are listed here below and can be obtained at this site:

Look for these:

Bally E-1000 & E-2000 Series Manuals, All Bally "E-2000" series manuals in one package, and one low price, plus a Bonus! Contains the three manuals listed right below this, Plus another great and easy reading, easy to use, operators manual not listed. About 150 pages of information about using and repairing your Bally "E" Series slot machine, emailed to you, all emailed to you for a great price of only.

And this hard to find manual for your military model:

Bally "E" Series (Military Specifications) Operator Instructions Manual FO-650-24. This is a 24 page manual for the Bally "E" Series slot machine which are in compliance with Military Specifications. For models using Universal Slot program (USP) Verion 5.71. For Military Model Ballys, another hard to find manual, emailed to you.

With these you will have all you need to cover all of your machine. Great Job on fixing your E/M slot, that always give me a warm feeling when I see someone's slot machine come back to life and running again. As for your jukebox, I am not going to be any help to you there, each one is different and I have no paper on that model. But, I think I can send you to a site where your can get a manual for it maybe.

Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
