Question
hello i recently obtained a slot machine. it is a bally 742a-401 number 16375. wondering if you know anything about it. i can power it up and the hopper starts spinning and wont stop until i am assuming it times out and i have to push the reset button inside behind the hopper to get the machine to come on again, but in the meantime it is like everything else is shut down. it wont accept coins and i cant pull the handle and i dont know how to get to a point where i can put a coin in and try it out. i dont have a picture at this time as i am at work right now but any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Brian,

It sounds like to me that it needs to finish a payout, have you tried dumping some coins in the hopper first? Or change the position of the reels to a none payout combination first, before you plug it in. When you get a winning combination on this slot machine, it completes a circuit that ends up on the contact board on the back of the coin hopper. This provides the hopper with a scorch of hopper motor power, and off it goes, The spiro cam on the back of the hopper gets stepped up once time for each coin that passes under the hopper coin counter. Once the spiro cam steps off the hot trace, (the 10 coin trace if it's a 10 coin payout) then the power source for the hopper motor is cut off and it stops running. So, on yours this spiro cam is not stepping up, could be that the hopper has no coins in it.
Let me know OK?

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
