Question
Bally
Bally
Hi Rodger
I recently bought a Bally Series E slot machine built in 1984. The manufacturers plate says it is an E1228 but the sticker on the reels says E1227-0-772. I also have a second identical unit but with model number E1230. I hope to get one good machine out of the two. Can you please recommend a suitable service manual which I could use for these units? I would prefer to buy it in electronic format so that it can be e-mailed to me in South Africa. Both units are complete and everything seems to be there so I hope to get going without too many problems. I attach an image for your info and trust that as the top expert you would be able to give some advice. Many thanks

Answer
Hi Louis,

Interesting......... You do have the Bally Series "E" machine here, but you have the Military Model. I help someone back awhile also from South Africa and he tow had two machine and they were also the Military Versions. If you look on the MPU board on the inside, to the left, you will see a roll of EPROM'S which will have paper labels on them, I bet if you look these over you will see military marked on these eprom's somewhere. Anyway they are Bally "E" series machine and I can help you out finding the right manuals for them, including the supplemental military manual for the differences' in this and the regular Bally E's. You can get these manuals at this web site:

http://jackpot7.freeyellow.com/page21.html

These are the group of manuals that will work best with this Bally Series "E" machine, listed as a package or as individual manuals under this listing on the web page:

Bally E-1000 & E-2000 Series Manuals, All Bally "E-2000" series manuals in one package, and one low price, plus a Bonus! Contains the three manuals listed right below this, Plus another great and easy reading, easy to use, operators manual not listed. About 150 pages of information about using and repairing your Bally "E" Series slot machine, emailed to you, all emailed to you.

Also look for this manual, as it is made for your Bally Military Model:

Bally "E" Series (Military Specifications) Operator Instructions Manual FO-650-24. This is a 24 page manual for the Bally "E" Series slot machine which are in compliance with Military Specifications. For models using Universal Slot program (USP) Verion 5.71. For Military Model Ballys, another hard to find manual, emailed to you.

This will provide you with all the paper you would need to work with these Bally series E-1000 or E-2000 series machines, (The E means Electronic). The only other manual that is very good and handy for Bally E's is this one listed there also:

Bally "E" Series Printed Circuit Board Schematics Manual F0-650-13. This Bally Manual covers the Printed Circuit boards, board schematics, board parts list for all electronic Bally series "E" slot machine, you need it to fix those boards or find board parts, about 40 pages of very good information, emailed to you.

This manual will tell you what series the printed circuit boards are, and deals with each and every printed circuit board in the machine including the power supply, and also useful in identifying the difference between Bally Series E-1000 and the E-2000 series boards, the E-1000 models look the same as the E-2000 machines but were made earlier, some boards are interchangeable and some are not between these two series (E-1000 and E-2000), and also they used Bally E-1000 series boards in some early E-2000 models, so it's handy to check the assembly numbers on the boards with this manual just to be sure what series printed circuit board it is, if looking for a replacement. If you find you are in the need of a part or something, just let me know as I may have it here in the shop somewhere, I do have a some replacement parts around.

Well Louis, I hope this answers all your questions for now, if not, just ask.

Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
