Dear Barbara K. Acchino.

I received an old thimble a couple of days ago from my mother. She had had it in her sewing basket for years and I was curious on how old this may be. I looked it up online but I could not find any information on this or the pattern, just the makers. The inside end reads MKD and Sterling. I also noticed the number 10 on the outside. However it looks like it was double stamped with the number 11 over it. I have attached a picture. I am very interested on more information on this item and perhaps a value. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Hello Joshua.  
How nice that you have your Mother's thimble!  I'm sure it has much more sentimental value than appraised value.  Your thimble is pictured in Gay Ann Rogers' American Silver Thimbles on page 70.  It is referred to as an engraved abstract floral design, produced in the 1880s.  Her 1989 price guide indicates a value of $25-$35.  Due to economic conditions, the thimble market has been depressed.  I have seen this thimble sell for $15-$25, assuming there are no holes and the thimble is not out of shape.  The band pattern is a common one.  The double stamping of the size, doesn't hurt or enhance the value.  I hope this helps.  Barbara
