Question
I also have come accross an old hand crank singer machine. it is very small so i assume it is a child's machine. However, my machine was built in great britian, it has a oval gold singer manufacture co.medallion on the front. It is in a green and tan wooden leather covered box3. The machine slides into slots on a small box inside and then a lid comes down over the machine to create a work space. Any info. you may have on this model (29962) would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Kate,
The Singer Sewing Machine Co. made thousands of little toy machines as well as the larger household models.  They were manufactured here in the USA and also in Great Britain.
According to the reference book "Toy & Miniature Sewing Machines" by Glenda Thomas "the gear driven handwheel is of solid construction. This machine also came with a table clamp so that it could be used without the box (the table)"  It sews a chain stitch and the machine dates to the 1950s.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
