Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Bally 922 slot machine coin hopper

Question
Rodger,
I just picked up my second slot machine. A bally 922 5 coin multiplyer. Everything works great on the unit and its in great shape, glass and all. My first machine was a Bally 809. On that machine when the handle was pulled the hopper ran  untill all reels stopped. My question is, on my 922 the only time the hopper runs is when a payout is due. Should this hopper run when handle is pulled or being a later model than the 809 was something changed? Also can u give me a rough idea of the value of this machine? It is easy 8-9 out of 10 condition.

Thank you sir for your time in reading my question.

Adam

Answer
Hi Adam,

The hopper should not run unless it is paying out, EXCEPT.........On some Bally slot machines that have progressive meeter's, or other machines that don't payout often, some will have a mixer relay that will mix the hopper coins every so many plays (like every 1 to 4 plays) to prevent the incoming coins from piling up high in one small area of the coin hopper. This might be what your hearing in your one machine. Other types of machines will have a payout in maybe 1 to ten plays and this payout will mix the coins so this relay is not needed. Value, I can't really guess very well without even seeing your machine but figure from 400.00 to 1,000.00 during this low time when not many people are buying the boy toys. If you have problums with your machine you can get manuals here:

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
