Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Thimble

Question
I am a beginner digitabulist. I bought a thimble at an antique store a while back. It has no words or numbers on it so I can't tell what size it is, but it's relatively large. It's made of a dark gray metal with a color and weight that reminds me of lead. It has a slight bulge for the rim and the only markings, which protrude from the base of the thimble, are on opposite sides- one of a bell and one of what I assume is the Statue of Liberty. The carvings are rigid and imperfect so I assume it was, to an extent, hand-made. What can you tell me?

Answer
Hello Kathleen.  It sounds like you have a pewter thimble, but I really can't tell you anything without a picture.  Have you tried searching ebay for something similar?  If you are a beginner digitabulist, please consider joining Thimble Collectors International (www.thimblecollector.com) and a group in your area (a listing can be found on the TCI web site).  If you are able to send a digital picture, please do so and I'll see if I can be of more help.  Barbara
