Question
Gold Thimble as the name H.J. COX stamped on one side and the date July 8, 1913 on the other side.  Inside on the head of the thimble there is a Bell stamped.  The outside bottom edge has a raised fleur de lis patter.  Any ideas?  Please help and Thanks muchos!!!!!  :)

Answer
Hello Dee Dee,
Thank you for your query.
From your description (you did not send a photo so cannot be 100% sure)it sounds as if you have a Simons Brothers, Inc. thimble.  When you look at the inside top of the thimble, you should see a trademark that resembles a bell with an old English S within the shield.  This trademark has been used at least since 1880. The raised fleur-de-lis pattern was listed in the Simons catalog as #92 and it dates to c.1890's.
Simons continues to make thimble today and will reissue a design.  However because your thimble has the date of July 8, 1913 engraved on it, this helps to specifically date the thimble as that of an antique.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Irene
