Question

coral pins with wooden
Hi, I have searched the Internet to find out information but have not had any luck. the pin case is 1 3/4 " tall, 3 1/2' round it is lined with purple velvet like fabric. The pins are topped with coral balls. i would like to know it's age, where its from, what it's called, type of wood & value.

Hello Taffy.  Does your wooden case open up so that a thimble could fit inside?  If so, you may have a mauchline ware (transferware) thimble holder rather than a pin case.  These were souvenir items produced in Europe for the tourist trade.   I can't help you with the pins, as they could be modern plastic tops...I can't really tell from the picture - I would need to see them/hold them.  Mauchlineware appears on ebay frequently and there are books out on the topic.  Perhaps your local library has them or could order them for you.  Good luck with your search.  Barbara
