Your lovely piece is indeed English and from a furniture vendor, whom I expect is long ago gone, from north London.  Before leaving Britain after seven wonderful years to return to family in America, I began purchasing Art Deco furniture and used eBay heavily.  Among the items I procured, for an extraordinary bargain, was a gorgeous walnut Art Deco bedroom set, complete with wardrobe, vanity, a chest of drawers, and bed with rails.  On the inside of the wardrobe, there was a yellowing rectangular marker at eye level that reads, "Francis Doe, Holloway Road, N7 - this is a north London address.  More interestingly, I had a courier collect the set from a north London address near there.  On arrival, the courier said the elderly man selling it asked if the set was going to a caring home.  It seems this may have been something he had kept in the family for many years, had difficulty parting with, and perhaps was part of that wonderful Blitz Generation.  This set is very heavy being of walnut and something that I hold great fondness for.  Enjoy your piece!

Expertise

In regards to American antique, vintage and collectible furniture I can help with wood identification, styles, age, periods, historical coatings, materials, techniques, repair, restoration, refinishing, and value. I do not study mid century and later furniture nor do I deal in lamps, and other smalls. robertsantiques@cox.net You may ask for values and I will give you current market values, I will not give you 'feel good' values. Understand that there are many factors that contribute to market value. If you want a feel good, unrealistic number, please call a local inexperienced appraiser. It is my desire to help you and in doing so I increase my knowledge as well. For that I thank you.
