Question

Mills slot machine
I have nickle slot machine made by Mills novelty co. I believe it is the black cherry model.  No. 499697
I would like to restroe it to the original colors. Do you know the approx. year and orignal colors?
when the handle is pulled it does not engage and the nickles appear to be stuck coming in from the top.  I had a lock smith open the back.

Answer

Mills Black Cherry Slo
Hi Brent,

Sorry for the delay I wanted to get you a photo of the right paint and what it looks like but I just couldn't got to it and I have to answer your question here. This is a mills Black Cherry and the correct colors are hammer tone silver which in your case, your lucky because they still make it and sell it in spray cans! The outside of the wood cabinet is painted glossy black on originals of this model. I'll attach some history information here to this answer that will give you the years it was made and tons of other information. If you would like to see the paint I use and what it looks like on this model of slot you can write me at jackpot7@q.com and I'll get a photo for you, sorry I haven't done that for you already but I have just been swamped this week. I got my first slot machine in 1969 and it was a black cherry just like yours. Someone really messed yours up but the good news is that you can replace that award card bib as it and other things for this slot are reproduced and available. I hope you enjoy the information that is included, you should be able to print it but if not, just write and I'll email it to you. There is a super good manual that you may want to get for this model if you don't have one, this manual has a lot of photo's in it and explains everything in detail. It is located here at:

And look for this one:

Mills Slot Machine mechanical repair and fully illustrated Manual, The Big One! This is a large manual with lots of mechanism photo's and information.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
