Question
I just purchased a Bally 742 slot machine. I understand you can adjust them to be "looser". Are there any instructions out there that can show me how to do this?
Thank you, Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,

Sorry my friend, but contrary to this information that has been out there forever, this is just not true. In order to change the payout percentage of a slot machine it is a complicated Job. If you wanted to tighten up the machine, then that is another answer, and much easer to do with the use of bugs, grafts, disk plugs, and reel tape patches. To change the odds you need to change the reel disks and the reel tapes. The reel disks would have to be punched out to match the new reel tapes depending on the percentage of the set of three reel strips you were going to use. These disks are bolted on the side of each reel and can be removed much easer from your model Bally 742 then the old mechanical machines. If you really wanted to try this, my guess would be to get in touch with a slot machine graphics company like maybe Peppers in Las Vegas and see if they have a kit of reel strips and disks for your model and game type with a higher payout percentage then yours. If the game is different, then you have to change all the award glass to match your new reel strips and disks. Its a big job that most anyone would not want to try as there would be a large cost for these new parts also.

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
