Question
Hello Roger I am a slot collector and recently came into a 1980's Bally's E Series Nickel machine.  The machine lights up fine, however when you put a nickel in it goes right through and comes out as if it were a pay-out.  Could you advise what to look for as far as a repair for this problem?  Thanks  Rick

Answer
Hi Rick,

In answer to you question, well yes and no. The Bally E is the electronics age, much-much different then the mechanical age of slots. Now we are dealing with a computer, and if the computer doesn't like something it tilts the machine. The reset on this machine is on the printed circuit board on the coin hopper, there are two red buttons, one is reset and one is test. They are marked on the circuit board. You will be much better off if you stay away from the test button, it is very helpful but only if you know what your doing first. Err codes show up in the winner paid window and tell you what is wrong. First you need to read a manual and get to know this machine. If you do push the reset button, look for the insert coin light to come on, if it does, your machine did reset and wants a coin. If you need a manuals for this game you can get them here:

If you Bally E is working and it tilts, the FIRST thing you want to do is write down the error code that is in the winners paid display before you open the door! Once you open the door your error code is replaced with a door open code of 50, and that 50 will not go away until after one play, Remember this, write down the error code first before you open the door. Also Rick if you type in Bally slot machine in the search box above here on this page you will see pages of answers I have given out on the bally e machines, this should answer most all of you future questions and there is lots of answers there, but fill free to ask anything and I'll try to help you.

Thank You

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Please email photo's to: jackpot7@ix.netcom.com My web site is at: http://www.coinslots.com

Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
