Question
I have a Ballys e-1000 4 wheel machine, the problem is the wheels won't spin. When you pull the arm down the wheels are released but they don't spin and then the machine tilts because of the no spin
do you have any idea how I can fix this?
Thanks for any assistance

Answer
Hi Art,

It's really hard for me to try to fix machines this way, and it takes a lot of explaining to try to put it together. But, here is my thought on you problem. I believe that the grease on all those small levers and linkage, shafts and parts under your reel bundle are almost all gummed up by old sticky hard grease. When machine get to this point the indexing levers that stop the reels are pulled back and cocked as you pull the handle, if the trips and things under the reel bundle are gummed up the latches that hold the index levers back until it time to stop the reels, don't get lock in the back position. Instead they just come right back into the reel bundle at kick off and stop the reels right away. Maybe one two or three on the index levers but this is what happens with machines that have not been serviced in years, they get stored in working condition and sometime later brought back out to be played and this is what happens to them. There is no easy cure for this, pulling the mechanism apart to clean and re lube it is a big job, and not an easy one. The other way might be to try to clean the thing somehow, solvent, hot perisher washer, or maybe light oil to soften the old hard grease up, but something has to be done to get all the levers, latches, trips, under that reel bundle to work effortlessly, smooth, cleanly, and quickly for a reel mechanism to work right. There are small light springs under there that need to return levers quick, and that is imposable if the grease is sticks and like glue. Now Art I am not saying this is what it is as it could be something else, but this I would put my money on as this sounds to me by your description is what is going on with this machine. If you need a large manual for this job to help you, there is one located at:

I hope this gives you some direction for a repair Art..........

Expertise

I am an expert on old coin operated machines, slot machines, trade stimulator's, jukeboxes, old arcade machines, etc. I have been identifying these for people who respond to my web site listed below, for a few years now. In almost all cases I am able to tell them about their old coin operated machines, the year, the value, and other general information about their machines. I do not know much about soda vending machines, coin banks, or scales, but I will try to help you with these if I can. Experience

I bought my first slot machine, a .50 Cent Mills Black Cherry in 1969 and have been hooked from that time, I still have that Slot machine! Before that I found a open barrel full of old scraped jukebox wall boxes behind a restaurant, I wanted them all but never took a one of them. Anything that took a coin drove me nuts!
