Green Wicker Furniture
I recently purchased an old wicker couch/chair.  However, I think it is what's called paper-wrapped wire.  The seating area has criss-cross wood bars slightly below the wicker back.  They slant slightly down from front to back.  I would assume this made for more comfortable sitting.  I'm not sure what was under the cushions and need to replace it.  Could it have been some kind of weaving fabric or even a type of box spring?  Something had to be there to hold up the cushions.

Answer
springs
springs
What you probably need are some drop in springs. I have attached a pic of a set. The chair would have had 2 or 3 sets, the sofa up to 6. They were then tied as you would any springs and covered with a heavy material for the cushion to sit on.
Another option would be to cut a piece of thin plywood to sit on the frame. Attach with a few nails to hold in place and let the cushions rest on this. It will "sit" harder then the springs. Check with a local upholstery shop or the web for the springs. New ones are available.
 Good Luck,

CommentThank you for your prompt answer. I will check upholstery shops in the area for springs; if none can be found, I'll take your suggestion to put plywood across bottom. Thanks again!
