Question
I have a "STANDARD" make sewing machine in a snake skin portable cabinet.  The machine is black in color and decorated with gold colored leaf fringe type decor.  I have no clue to age or origin only that it belonged to my Grandmother.  I have found what i think may be a serial # it is as follows DA 5749.  I hope this helps.  I hope we can get an Idea of it's value (if any) so that we may sell it to someone who will enjoy it.  I appreciate your time.

Answer
Hello Magic,
Thank you query. If you page back in my file, you will find all sorts of information on the Standard Sewing Machine Co. You will also find links to other website that may be helpful to you.

I no longer do appraisals without the object in hand, sorry. As far as value goes, your best bet is to search websites for sewing machines and then to compare the selling prices - these give you a good idea of market value.  Take into account the condition of your machine and how 'rare' your model might be.  Remember though, that most of these machines were mass produced.

Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
