Can you place the maker of this thimble that my wife got from her grandmother over 60 years ago?  It looks like an old English "s" on the inside tip of the thimble.

Answer
The maker of your wife's thimble is Simons Bros Co of Philadelphia PA.  They used an Old English S in a shield as their trademark.  The thimble has a beaded rim and is considered a "utilitarian" design.  It was made from the 1880s thru the 1920s.  Hope this helps.  Barbara
