Hi Didier,

Your scale appears to have a porcelain plate which is indicative of a shop scale . The model 85 was also manufactured as a parcel post scale.

The Computing Scale Co. was merged several times and became the Detroit Scale Co. in 1914, Dayton Scale Co in 1921 and became IBM in 1924. Hobart bought Dayton Scale Co from IBM in 1934. The large, heavy scales were manufactured in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s.

PATENT        DATE          Patentee          FOR
856,998     June 11, 1907   F P Dunn   Fan dial computing scale
1,109,359   Sep 1, 1914     E C Pool        Improvement horizontal barrel computing scale
1,196,027   Aug 29, 1916   C E Riedel & W J Barnes    Fan dial computing scale

Patents can be viewed by entering their numbers one at a time in the search box here:

Most collectors are not interested in large computing scales as they are heavy and take up too much space. However, well restored computing scales like yours are more valuable as they can be used by decorators as a point of interest in a large family room or kitchen.  Retail value might be $300-$900 or more.

Hope this helps.
