I recently acquired this chair.  I believe it to be a platform rocking chair, but can't tell more about it.  It has one spring on each side.  It appears to have been partially restored as the metal braces on left and right are not identical, also there is a shadow pattern showing under both the right and left springs there was once a different lower spring mount.  The back is torn, but seems to be of the wrong material (i.e., plastic not the expected oil cloth) which implies that too was a replacement.  I can find no markings on it.  I will replace the torn back material. Is it possible to date this chair or assess a value when the torn material is replaced?  More pics are available.

this platform rocker is from the 1910-20 period.  fabric should be cloth or leatherette.

springs sound like they have been replaced.  some have one coil some have two coils up an two down.

i need to see a clear and infocus photo to go further.

use the followup function to repost clear, thanks

In regards to American antique, vintage and collectible furniture I can help with wood identification, styles, age, periods, historical coatings, materials, techniques, repair, restoration, refinishing, and value. I do not study mid century and later furniture nor do I deal in lamps, and other smalls. You may ask for values and I will give you current market values, I will not give you 'feel good' values. Understand that there are many factors that contribute to market value. If you want a feel good, unrealistic number, please call a local inexperienced appraiser. It is my desire to help you and in doing so I increase my knowledge as well. For that I thank you.

I have been in the antiques furniture and restoration business and in the sales of antique furniture for 40+ years and have continued my education in the trade attending workshops and seminars by various organizations, institutions, and private collectors.
