Hi. Wondering if you can tell me the maker of this thimble? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated as well (age, value, etc.) I know nothing about thimbles. Generally, what important things do collectors look for? Thanks so much for your help :)

Answer
Hello Deborah.  Simons Bros. Co. of Philadelphia PA made this thimble.  They used this "keystone" mark on their oreide thimbles from 1919 thru 1952.  Oreide is an alloy of copper, zinc and tin which looks like gold when shined.  There are very commonly found and have a value of around $5.  There are different band patterns found with this mark.  As to your question on what important things do collectors look for....I guess that depends on the collector.  If you prefer precious metal thimbles, some makers may be more important than others, some band designs may be more important than others, etc.  But what is always important is condition....no dings, dents, hole, scratches, etc. as all this things affect the value.  There are some good books out on the subject and lots of internet resources (check out www.thimblecollectors.com) and many state groups that could help you if you are thinking of becoming a full fledged thimble collector  :-)  Barbara
