Collectibles-General (Antiques)/sleigh bed value question

Question
Fred,

Glad to see you are available today.  I have a sleigh bed (double) that I need to know an approximate value on.  I will email photos shortly.  Thank you.

Ben Wagner

Answer
Ben - Your bed is an early 20th century reproduction of a mid 19th century Empire sleigh bed. You can tell it is 20th century by the stamped metal hooks in the siderails. The evolution of bed hooks is detailed in my book.

The bed is made of ribbon striped mahogany veneer.

While it is not an antique it still has value as a working bed. It would sell at auction in the $100 range.

Thanks for writing and thanks for the photos.
