The most recent addition to my household is an antique plantation desk. I know what the desk is but have no clue as to the age or type of wood used to construct the item. I have looked for one of these for the past three years. I happened to find the one I purchased on Craigslist in my home area of Richmond VA about a month ago for $300. I am happy with my purchase and am looking to have it restored in the near future. Any information you can give provide about the desk and advice on restoration is very much appreciated.
Answer I will need to see close clear pictures of the wood grain to help with wood species.
Need a picture o the outside of the side of the drawer where the side meets the front to see the joints
need a picture of the bottom outside of teh drawer taken with the drawer upside down picture taken from the rear showing the back and bottom in the same shot.
need a picture of the back of the desk.
do full view picture of the rear
do a picture of the lower top with the upper removed
sized around 1024 x 768
looks like a very good one.
you may send to my eamil as attachments to one email, thanks
In regards to American antique, vintage and collectible furniture I can help with wood identification, styles, age, periods, historical coatings, materials, techniques, repair, restoration, refinishing, and value. I do not study mid century and later furniture nor do I deal in lamps, and other smalls.
You may ask for values and I will give you current market values, I will not give you 'feel good' values. Understand that there are many factors that contribute to market value. If you want a feel good, unrealistic number, please call a local inexperienced appraiser.
It is my desire to help you and in doing so I increase my knowledge as well. For that I thank you.
I have been in the antiques furniture and restoration business and in the sales of antique furniture for 40+ years and have continued my education in the trade attending workshops and seminars by various organizations, institutions, and private collectors.
