Question I have an antique thimble and am trying to identify the maker's marks. It is gold with a floral pattern around the mid to lower edges. On the inside bottom is the number 9 with an anchor on either side of the 9. Any idea who the maker is?
Answer Hello Karen. Anchors are used as a maker's mark and as an indication that they item is gold filled, so unless I see the marks and where they are placed on the thimble, I can't help you much more than that. If you are able to send me a digital picture (bacchino@twcny.rr.com), then I may be able to provide more information. There are internet sites that have silver marks and there are a number of books out on the subject. Either of those avenues might be of help to you as well. Barbara
