Question Hello Barbara, I have a bone item in the shape of a spinning top. It measures two and a half inches from the spinning point to the top spindle. The thin top spindle has a hole in it big enough for a needle. There is a quarter inch square hole in the body. I bought it alongwith a bone needlecase which dates from 1820 and is a French POW item. The little spinning top is very skillfully made however no-one knows what it was used for.Would love to hear your comments and can send a picture if you need it.
Regards, Rosie
Answer Hello Rosie. Yes, please send a digital picture to me at bacchino@twcny.rr.com. Also include why you think it is bone rather than ivory and if possible, send a picture of the needlecase as well. Don't know how much I can tell you, but I'll see what I can do. Looking forward to hearing from you. Barb
