Question I PURCHASED A CABINET(SOMETHING LIKE A HOOZIER) I AM STRIPPING IT, THE TAG UP ON THE TOP, WHICH IS IN TIN, BUT THE LETTERING ON IT WAS PAINTED ON, IT SAYS MCDOUGAL, DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS COMPANY? IF NOT WHERE DO YOU THINK I COULD LOOK. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
Answer Mary Ann - Before you go too much further you need to better inform yourself on the subject. Most Hoosiers were originally painted and the wood underneath is not very pretty. Here are a couple of books on the subject available from Amazon,
"Hoosier Cabinets"
by Philip D. Kennedy (Paperback - August 1989)
"Indiana Cabinets - Including Hoosier, Sellers, McDougall, Napanee, Etc."
by L-W Book Sales Firm, L-W Book Sales
There also is an excellent video on the subject “The Hoosier Cabinet” from Uncle Tom's Hoosier Cabinets and Parts, 5680 W. McNeely, Ellettsville, IN 47429. The last phone number I have is (812) 867-5060.
McDougal was located in Frankfort,IN. Thanks for writing. Fred Taylor
