Subject: Coca-Cola thimble

Question
Many years ago, I purchased a red glass Coca-Cola thimble as a gift for a
friend.  The lettering was done in a gold color, but I don't think there were
any other distinguishing details.  He tells me that another friend accidentally
broke it.  He also thinks that I'd found a honest to goodness antique.  I've
been trying to replace it, but have never seen anything else like it anywhere.
Have you ever heard of such a piece, and do you think it might have been
worth more than the $4 I originally purchased it for?

Answer
Hello Lesley.  I'm afraid the ruby glass Coca-Cola thimble is not an antique, but anything Coca-Cola is collectible.  The thimble you described is contemporary, as it was made within the past 20-25 years.  They are quite common and can be found frequently on ebay.  It was not worth much more than you paid for it when you purchased it and they don't bring too much more than that now.  I'm sure the thimble is worth more than that to your friend in sentimental value.
